How to Manage Time While Working from Home

As work moves home, it can be hard to separate yourself from your job and home life. Instead of working round the clock, say no to working outside of your work hours. Manage time more effectively during work hours to get more work done and feel productive. Here are our best tips for managing your time at home.

Have a To-Do List

You don’t need to bullet journal, but you should have a list of daily and weekly tasks to help you stay focused on the job at hand. Know how long your tasks should take so you can plan accordingly. Prioritize tasks to get the hardest and worst stuff done first.

Schedule in Breaks

If you were at the office, you would take breaks away from your desk, even if it’s just to go to the break room for a cold drink. When you work from home, to manage time better, you need to take breaks to break up the routine. You need time away from the screen to refresh your mind. Get away from work and allow yourself a walk around the block each day and a time to stretch every so often.

Block Distractions

Most people don’t multi-task well. It’s better to focus on one job for 30 to 45 minutes, take a quick break and then come back to refocus on the next task. Don’t get distracted by answering messages every five minutes, because it will take you longer to get back into your regular tasks. Turn off distractions to push through your work.

Say No

There’s a saying that when you say yes to one thing, you’re saying no to something else. Learn to say no when something doesn’t fit into your schedule and scope of work. It’s not easy, but your first priority is work.
